Welcome to Port Macquarie

It only takes a few short minutes to drive to Port Macquarie from the airport. Finding the town centre is as easy as following the bright blue signs and before we know it, Claire and I arrive at the Macquarie Waters Boutique Apartment Hotel. We are greeted with good old fashioned Port Macquarie hospitality; big smiles and genuine warmth.

Our apartment is huge! Boasting two large bedrooms and bathrooms, a fully self-contained kitchen and comfortable living room and beautiful views off the balcony. We settle into the room then head out for a walk around town, spotting the bright and colourful koala sculptures scattered around.

After a short walk we arrive at The Glasshouse for a guided tour. Not only is it Port Macquarie’s premier event space, it is also one of the best in the state and even the country, favoured by many renowned performers and performance groups.

The space is breathtaking and we are shown beautiful artworks from famous and budding artists as well as hallways which have been walked by famous musicians and comedians. Aside from being functional, the venue is also architectually marvellous, resembling a ship with its timber floors and high ceilings supported by long, steel vertical beams.

For visitors, The Glasshouse is a one-stop shop as the friendly staff are able to help with visitor information, hotel bookings and any other information you may need for your stay. As well as this, it’s a great place to start getting to know Port Macquarie from the inside out.

After our tour ends, we head back to Macquarie Waters for dinner at The Corner, the hotels fantastic restaurant. Warm, inviting and cosy, the restaurant boasts delicious gourmet food prepared with care and consideration.

We start with a selection of oysters to share with a glass of Pinto Gris, followed by perfectly prepared Barramundi with a crisp skin, gnocchi and mushrooms. To finish, we each have a dessert. Claire chooses the chocolate, salted caramel and popcorn while I go for the orange curd tartlet. We are both transported back to our childhoods, treated with delicate, delicious desserts that look almost too good to eat!

It has been a fantastic, relaxing start to our time in Port Macquarie and the beginning of our journey along The Legendary Pacific Coast Drive. It has also been a great way to slip into Port Macquarie life and get a little taste of what’s to come! We are both so excited to get on the road tomorrow and see more of what this beautiful area has to offer, if it’s as good as today was we are definitely in for a big treat!
