It is the final event of Scottish Australia Heritage Council's Heritage Week. Heritage Week. This will be the fifteenth year of the games. During the two day event more than 23 events take place with stalls providing food and Celtic displays all of which represent traditional Celtic culture and recreation as well as the traditional Kirkin of the tartan. The Games are a gathering together from Sydney and regional New South Wales of pipe bands, Clans, dancers, heavy events and state and interstate tug-of-war teams to celebrate the Celtic history of the Upper Hunter. The main features of the games of 2014 will be the massed pipes & drums, the Tartan Warriors with their feats of strength and the Australian National Tug of War titles.

In order to qualify and earn their right to compete at the Australian University Games, university teams compete at one of three regional university Games events. In 2014, the EUG will be hosted by the city of Newcastle and is expected to attract just under 3,000 university and TAFE students from New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. The first contest was held in 1960 between Stroud, US and Stroud, UK - both having brickworks. In 1961, the Canadian and Australian Stroud's were invited to participate. In 1962 at the suggestion of Stroud, Australia, a rolling pin throwing contest for women was included. Market stalls, foot races, wood-chopping, tug-of-war and musical events keep you entertained heats are conducted to choose the team which will represent Australia in the International throw Theme of this year's Street Parade is "Out of Africa". International Town Crier Graham Keating will lead the Parade through town. Even though it's the middle of a Coffs Coast (mild) winter, the event is guaranteed to turn up the heat a few notches. Each year, the popular festival attracts thousands of people to the pretty seaside village, keen to sample the wide range of chilli-related foods and products, take part in fun activities and competitions and be entertained by live music, dancing, cooking and other performances. The festival is an incredibly fun day out for the whole family. There will be street performances, rides for the kids, live music and dancing and, of course, the by now very famous annual Chilli Eating Competition! Awesome track, plenty of water, hay and carrots for the horses and a kick-arse dinner for us on Saturday night! - Wow, what a fabulous weekend. Thank you to Malcolm, Megan and all the helpers who made it possible. So many friendly wonderful people endurance riders are. I was proud to be part of this event. - Great weekend. Scarlet and I really enjoyed the ride. The ride distances are 20 kilometres social (both days), 40 kilometres training ride (both days), 80 kilometres endurance ride (Sunday).

Wed 16 July, 2014 - Sun 3 August, 2014Parade - Katka Adams, is the new exhibition at the Northern Rivers Community Gallery. Katka originally from Prague, arrived in Australia in 1968, was forced to leave her home country as Russia invaded Czechoslovakia. She is now based in the Northern Rivers where she now practices as a full-time artist. The aspitaion for Katka's whimsical current work evolved from her recent travels in Japan which has given her a completely fresh view in connecting to nature. Parade is a collection of pastel drawings on paper which playfully create narratives depicting animals within a domestic space. Using a combination of bold colours and dramatic lighting each work captures a moment in wonder of the everyday.

Portraits of a Tea Cosy - This national travelling exhibition is the culmination of a two year journey initiated by yarb artist Loani Prior, aka Queen of Tea Cosies, and professional photographer Mark Crocker. Using the tea cosy as a catalyst for dialogue on the joy of owning something handmade and family tradition; this exhibition reveals the humble tea cosy as a vessel that evokes nostalgic memories and deep familial love. Parade - Katka Adams' playful drawings depict adorned animals and domestic objects that capture the ceremony of tradition. Using a combination of bold colour palettes and dramatic lighting, each work isolates a moment of revere for the everyday. This exhibition celebrates the existance of the ordinary and on a deeper level, explores the symbolism of a universal psyche and the human spirit.

Rarely does an opportunity like this present itself as is normally closed to the public. Inspect the lighthouse keeper's quarters which were built in 1880 and imagine living in this isolated outpost. Included in this fantastic offer is an interpretive guided tour by National Parks and Wildlife Rangers and return helicopter flights with the option of a one or two hour tour. Fri 25 July, 2014 - Sun 10 August, 2014Celebrating its fifth year, the 2014 NAB Coffs Coast Cycle Challenge is shaping up to be its biggest yet. With eight categories of ride, including the new C4 hill climb, the Festival of Cycling on the Coffs Coast is sure to be a great fortnight of cycling. The Festival of Cycling kicks of on Friday, 25 July and concludes on Sunday, 10 August 2014. Throughout these few weeks, locals and visitors alike can enjoy the many local cycling events on in and around the Coffs Coast, including the NAB Coffs Coast Cycle Challenge on Sunday, 3 August 2014. Interesting demonstrations throughout the day of spinning and weaving, jewellery making, quilt and patchwork preparation, fabric sculpture, paper crafting, hand-painted fabrics, hand-made textile crafts, decorative painting and hand-made flowers and fascinators will educate and inspire craft lovers. This year there will also be an exhibition by the Casino Art Group. Merchandise and light refreshments will be on sale throughout the day. Entry will be by gold coin donation. Casino Quota is a group of local women who work together having fun while raising funds for those who are hearing and speech impaired, disadvantaged women and children and for the local community.

Hosted by the combined Rotary Clubs of Lismore, opera buffs and novices alike are encouraged to dress formally and enjoy a 'silver service' luncheon under a grand marquee, take their own picnic hampers or buy a barbecue lunch and enjoy the picturesque country setting and lush green hills in Coronation Park, The Channon. Following lunch, guests will be treated to an afternoon of fine music, with a stunning selection from famous operas, this year featuring artists from Opera Australia. Tickets to the popular event always sell quickly, so get in early to avoid disappointment! All proceeds go to local Rotary charities. Sun 27 July, 2014 - Sun 31 August, 2014For Lismore's 'Arts in August', The Channon Gallery will be dedicating the front of the gallery to exhibit Lismore-only artists. Some of works will come from out of the stock room, but there will be works new to the gallery as well. Artists will include AñA Wojak, Dan McDonnell, Gery Mews, Lindsay Hunt, Rikki Fisher, Steven Perrin, Theodore Kennett-Raj, Dawn Thirlaway and Michael Hallam. Included in the exhibition are works by Anna Nordström and R. J. Poole. Anna and Rod are life partners as well as artists, with Anna primarily a painter and Rod, a photographer. Each has a very different arts practice. The works of the artists will be exhibited together for the first time. At the rear of the gallery, the group showing will continue, expanding the artist pool to include others from the Northern Rivers, including new works by Susan Gourley.

Events for Grafton are on Monday 28 July kicking off at 1.50pm at the Grafton High School with a talk and Q and A with Craig Sherborne, Angela Meyer, Ashley Hay, Nick Earls and Samuel Wagan Watson. This event concludes at 3pm. From 4pm to 5pm head along to the Grafton Library for a talk and Q and A with Nick Earls and Samuel Wagan Watson. The day concludes at the Clocktower Hotel for a panel and games with Craig Sherborne, Angela Meyer, Ashley Hay, Nick Earls and Samuel Wagan Watson, running from 7pm to 8pm.

Stalls include: produce, seedlings, handmade cosmetics, cleaning products, candles, seafood, wines, cheeses, freshly baked bread, coffee, cakes, pickles, jams, dips and other home-cooked treats. Markets held every Thursday.

The market is held weekly on a Thursday, on the Duke Street side of Market Square, near the Pound Street corner. There is plenty of street parking available. Discover the flavoursome taste of seasonal fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs just harvested, much of it grown organically, chemical free and local, purchased directly from the grower.
