The 18th Annual Gathering of the Clans is on again this year and will be held in the NSW Central Coast town of Norah Head on Saturday 6 September. Held on a bush trail on the Coffs Creek walkway, the flat, shady course is ideal for runners. The picturesque track hugs the beautiful Coffs Creek and competitors run over floating boardwalks, through swamp forests of mangrove, casuarina and paperbark trees from the centre of town to the coast and back. The Competition's history dates from 1999 when renowned Australian luthier Graham Caldersmith made the generous offer to donate a concert violin each year as a prize. Young violinists (maximum age 23 on 1 January) who are citizens or residents of Australia are invited to compete for this fine instrument which is made from Australian timbers. Many of the approximately 150 young violinists who have competed to date, particularly past winners and finalists, have gone on to major achievements in Australia and overseas. The Competition is administered by a small committee of volunteers under the Artistic Directorship of Violinist Goetz Richter, Associate Professor of Violin at the Conservatorium of Sydney. Since 2004, semi-finals have been held as public performances in Sydney. The final is always held in Kendall, the home of the Competition.

All riders are welcome and anyone with ideas on how to make cycling safer and more enjoyable in the Ballina Shire. An 11 kilometre Social Ride commences at 9am. Register at the Pop Up Coffee Shop at 9am sharp. The Pop Up Coffee Shop will be open from 9am to 11am. At the southern entrance to the North Wall, East Ballina Council is developing a new Bike Plan. This is a chance to have your say on cycling infrastructure and facilities, as input is sought to identify the priorities for the plan. Barefoot Roasters will provide one free coffee to each participating cyclist.

Ashby locals welcome you to enjoy a stroll around the variety of stalls on offer. Shows include family entertainment in the streets of Coffs Harbour and in the surrounding villages including Sawtell and Woolgoolga. There are evening shows in the North Coast Botanic Gardens and adult shows in local pubs and clubs. Entertainment includes artists from across the globe, including a strong Australian and local contingent, in Australia's largest gathering of professional buskers.

Wear sensible shoes and tale provisions including water. The fascinating Mungo walking track, in Myall Lakes National Park, is a feast for the body, mind and senses. A delightful collection of walks combine to create this absorbing track which joins Mungo Brush campground on the shores of Bombah Broadwater to Hawks Nest. It's a long yet easy walk, taking in some important Aboriginal and post-colonial heritage sites, landforms and diverse vegetation.

The Show includes flowering orchid displays, pot plants and bromeliads, potting demonstrations and sale tables of orchids and pot plants. Fri 26 September, 2014 - Sun 5 October, 2014The Adelaide Swift Art Show is a prestigious event with entries for seven categories coming from far and wide. There will be approximately 180 exhibits in all mediums. Total prize money: AUD4,500. The Adelaide Swift Art Initiative is funded from the estate of a former resident of South West Rocks. It was her gift to the community to encourage visual artists to broaden their learning's in the art arena. The show will be located in the South West Rocks Public School Hall and entry is free.

Wavesailing is a great sport that combines surfing and windsurfing. This years event will be run with an expression session format which means some of Australia's best wave sailors will be pushing the limits to impress the judges. If there is a strong wind blowing, there will be spectacular action to witness.

Mon 29 September, 2014Hosted by Northern NSW Football, the FFA National Youth Championships for both boys and girls, are national tournaments with teams from all member State Federations of FFA competing against one another to reign as National Champions. The Championships are an integral part of the FFA national youth development and identification process providing a showcase for the best 13 and 14 year old boys and 14 and 15 year old girls from all states. The National Youth Championhships for boys will be held from 29th September 2014 with the next National Youth Championships for girls set to be held from the 7th July 2014.
