Angelica Mesiti - Relay League Exhibition

This message sent by Morse code in 1997 was the poetic starting point for artist Angelica Mesiti as she embarked on creating her exciting new work: Relay League. The message was not, as one may assume, a desperate transmission sent from a sinking ship, but rather, the final message signalling the end of the use of Morse code sent by the French Navy. In her latest work, Mesiti takes the dots and dashes of this forsaken language and brings them to life in a three-channel video installation. "Calling all. This is our last cry before our eternal silence" Relay League was curated and developed by Artspace and is touring nationally with Museums and Galleries of NSW. This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body. The development and presentation of Relay League is supported by Commissioning Partner the Keir Foundation. Relay League was produced with the support of C ND National de la Danse, Paris and University of New South Wales Art and Design. Relay League will be accompanied by a book published by Schwartz City and designed by Formist.

Exploring parallels between these and Stokes' Australian locations the exhibition explores drawing as a vehicle to interweave a connection between place and memory. Izabela Pluta: Reversal

Reversal is a photographically-based installation that draws on Rose Macaulay’s 1953 book, Pleasure of Ruins, which articulates a relationship between the disappearance of buildings and the limitations of words used to describe them. Pluta’s exhibition materially translates, fragments and reconfigures Macaulay’s ideas to explore the mutability of things and the impermanence of places. Izabela Pluta has exhibited widely in Australia and in 2018 was shortlisted for the MAMA Foundation National Photographic Award. In 2019 Pluta will be presenting new work in exhibitions including The National 2019: new Australian art at the Art Gallery of NSW and Resurfaced Geographies at Verge Gallery, Sydney. Path to Everest - Port Macquarie

Kilian Jornet, the best mountain runner in history, wrote as a child a list of all the races he would like to win and all the mountains he dreamed of climbing. In May 2017 he ticked off the last on the list with the historic double, solo ascent of Everest, without oxygen and in a single climb. It marked the climax of the Summits of My Life project which over five years took him to some of the world’s most famous peaks, accompanied by a small group of climbers. Path to Everest, directed by Sébastien Montaz-Rosset and Josep Serra, follows the path that led Kilian Jornet to the highest peak in the world in an intimate portrait that reveals his fears, contradictions and his desire to keep seeking new challenges so that he can continue to dream, surrounded by the mountains and people who are his inspiration. Path to Everest is presented by Adventure Entertainment and perfect for anyone who enjoyed the Oscar-winning documentary, Free Solo.
