Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail

Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail celebrates one of Australia's iconic animals - the koala - and the outstanding work of the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital - the first facility in the world solely dedicated to care and conserve the koala. Established in 2014, Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail is a multi-award winning tourism attraction that delights both the locals and visitors to Port Macquarie-Hastings, on the Mid North Coast of NSW. The Trail encompasses 57 hand painted one metre high koala sculptures on exhibition around the town of Port Macquarie and dotted around the landscape from the hinterland to the sea. So don't be surprised if you come across one of these creatively decorated koalas resting in parkland, lazing by the beach, waiting outside the shops, or playing with toddlers, school kids, mums and dads, and grannies. Everyone in the family loves the Hello Koalas! It's the best treasure hunt on the east coast of Australia too! With great photo opportunities to share with family and friends. Try and capture them all and post them on Facebook and Instagram. It's koalarageously clever! Join them for the Hello Koalas Festival, June Long Weekend 2018.

The premise of the market was originally based on the idea of "re-use, recycle, repurpose" with local valley residents bringing their farm produce excesses to the local hall to barter and share with other residents. Since then, this little market has grown to include fantastic food, great coffee, eclectic and interesting stalls including jewellery, artworks, metal work, recycled clothing, knitwear, jams, preserves and plenty more. Playhouse Creatures by April DeAngelis

Playhouse Creatures by April DeAngelis presented by Glasshouse Port Macquarie and Pigeonhole Theatre. In 1660 the throne was restored to Charles II and he returned from France in triumph. He brought with him an addiction to the theatre, as it had been done by the French. Boys will be boys, the saying goes, but boys would be girls too in England’s theatre companies until Charles decreed that women would – for the first time – be allowed to perform on the English stage. Audiences turned up in their droves – including the King – to see the spectacle of women performing. This is the story of five actresses of this time, their triumphs, their trials, and their struggle to be taken seriously as legitimate actors – a moving and funny account of the precarious lives of Restoration actresses. Kendall National Violin Competition

One of the most exciting events on the Australian music calendar is the annual Kendall National Violin Competition. The competition's history dates from 1999 when renowned Australian luthier Graham Caldersmith made the generous offer to donate a concert violin each year as a prize. Young violinists (maximum age 23 on 1 January) who are citizens or residents of Australia are invited to compete for this fine instrument which is made from Australian timbers. Many of the approximately 150 young violinists who have competed to date, particularly past winners and finalists, have gone on to major achievements in Australia and overseas. The competition is administered by a small committee of volunteers under the Artistic Directorship of Violinist Goetz Richter, Associate Professor of Violin at the Conservatorium of Sydney. Since 2004, semi-finals have been held as public performances in Sydney. The final is always held in Kendall, the home of the competition.

Beechwood Billycart Classic

The Beechwood Billycart Classic is a great fun day for both adults and kids. The billycart races cater for 100 kilometres per hour speedsters racing down Mt Pappinbarra, veterans and kids’ races, set in the relaxed village atmosphere of Beechwood. Besides the billycart races, there are stalls, horse rides, jumping castle, barbeques, and of course the hospitality of the Beechwood Hotel. Started in 1980, the five kilometre adult course attracts entries from far and wide, with the top racers exceeding 100 kilometres per hour! Since there are a couple of small uphill sections, billycarts for the Classic are unique in the world, in that they are two-person. One does the driving, whilst the other – the ‘Co-Driver’ – needs a fit pair of legs to keep the power up when gravity’s working against them. Children do a much shorter downhill-only course down the main street of Beechwood, but since its only a gentle decline, they use a ‘Co-Driver’ too!
