The lush coastal landscapes of The Legendary Pacific Coast intertwined with teaming rivers, and rolling hills is a grand east coast food bowl delivering up fresh produce from the paddocks, mountains, rivers and sea.
A profusion of farmers markets brings produce from the paddock to the people, creative chefs translate the character of the region into contemporary cuisine, a growing band of farmers specialise in organics and fine food producers value add raw product to deliver teas, coffee, wine, boutique beers and a broad range of speciality gourmet goods. Savouring the flavour of the drive is a mouth watering adventure.
Travel winding roads embraced with towering trees and lush pastures to the fertile homes of macadamia, olive, avocado and tropical fruit farms.
Historic sea side fisherman’s cooperatives deliver the catch of the day with a choice of succulent local prawns, fish freshly caught from the ocean and rivers, and award winning oysters of the Sydney Rock variety.
Established Surf Clubs in a bid to be innovative and viable have installed contemporary cafes and restaurants with drop dead ocean views and mouth watering menus.
Beautifully renovated colonial cottages are transformed into funky eateries serving up great food adding interest with works by leading artisans, or eclectic home wares and jewellery.
Regional wineries and a growing number of boutique breweries create tastes that compliment and enhance the character of their region. At the same time impressive tasting rooms and family friendly gardens and cafes offer a great day out.
Everywhere shelves are packed with locally bottled olives and olive oils, choc coated, salted and flavoured macadamia nuts, quality preserves, condiments, spices, teas and coffees.
Dedicated chefs note the origin of your meals’ ingredients while others count the food miles from the paddock to your plate.
There are so many good restaurants along the route, more than 40 established Farmers’ Markets and no shortage of memorable meals and great product.
In these trails we trace the character of the region through its producers and some eateries in each location supporting great local produce, great tastes and the future sustainability of their location.
