Suggested itineraries - Port Stephens

DAY 1

The morning

Depart Sydney after a leisurely breakfast and miss the peak hour traffic so the drive will only take you 2.5 hours.

For lunch

Head on to Murrays Brewery for a beer and wine tasting tour followed by lunch! Pick up some locally made beers to take home with you. They are famous for their Port Stephens Whale Ale! Try Cookabarra Restaurant and Function Centre where you can learn about barra breeding, catch one and have it for lunch!

The afternoon

Just a short drive from Murrays Brewery is Anna Bay and the amazing Worimi Conservation Lands where you can join an organised tour and find out more about this amazing natural sand dune system and the indigenous history of the area. You can explore the dunes in a 4WD vehicle, by quad bike or camel.

For dinner

Enjoy fresh local seafood and Hunter Valley wines at your choice of waterfront restaurants or for something really unique, try a dinner cruise on the calm waters of Port Stephens.

The evening

Nelson Bay Diggers has a range of entertainment options for the young and young at heart.

Stay the night

Port Stephens has a huge range of accommodation options from luxury waterfront resorts to self-contained apartments, campsites and cabins.

DAY 2

The morning

Start the day with a morning hike to the summit of Mount Tomaree and see some of the most spectacular views on the east coast of Australia. From May to November keep your eyes out for the majestic humpback whales as they make their way past the Port Stephens coastline.

Follow up with a hearty breakfast at your accommodation or in one of the local cafes. Join a dolphin watch cruise and get up close and personal with our friendly local dolphins. This is one Port Stephens experience to good to miss!

For lunch

Enjoy fresh local prawns and oysters or fish and chips at anyone of our waterfront parks…enjoy a quick dip in the crystal clear waters before heading for a stroll or spa treatment.

The afternoon

Call in to the local farmgate producers at Anna Bay, Bobs Farm on your way for fresh local fruits and vegetables, figs, avocadoes and more.

Stop at Medowie Macadamias for afternoon tea. Their cakes and sweets are worth stopping off for. While you’re their pick up some of their famous Chilli Macadamias.
