Macleay Valley Coast – Tourist Drive 14

Travel over the rolling hills of Yarrahapinni with galleries to explore on the way to Stuarts Point located on the arm of the Macleay River.  Walk via the river or beach to Grassy Head and spend time relaxing at the reserve at Grassy Head before travelling to the surfing village of Scotts Head.

This drive is only 36km long and you can follow the Tourist Drive 14 signs, 32kms north of Kempsey.  Head east from the highway along Stuarts Point Rd and follow the sign to Stuarts Point a village popular with fishing enthusiasts located on the banks of the Macleay River. The beach is an easy walk across the pretty footbridge.

Return along Ocean Ave and turn right into Grassy Head Rd, travel 2km and turn right into Reserve Rd to the day visitor area. Take a walk to see the former mouth of the Macleay River, swim, surf or picnic. Next, return to Grassy Head Rd and turn right, then turn right into Scott’s Head Rd which becomes Waratah St, veer right into Short St then straight ahead at the Scott’s Head Reserve Trust sign to the day visitor area.

On the way back, stop at the lookout on your left, then follow the Macksville sign back out to the Pacific Highway.
