Manning Valley to Port Macquarie – Tourist Drive 8
Tinonee, Wingham, Elands, Comboyne, Wauchope
Turning off the Pacific Highway at the southern entrance to Taree follow Bucketts Way and turn off to the riverside village of Tinonee. From Tinonee follow the road to Wingham via Mondrook and if you feel crafty and would like refreshments and to view local artisans works, stop at Artisans on the Hill in Mondrook. Stop at Brushy Cutting lookout on the way to Wingham for stunning views west over the Manning Valley.
The historic township of Wingham is the gateway to the Falls and here Bent on Food, a multi-award winning cafe can offer you a variety of foodie delights made with local produce. The Wingham Museum and a walk along the wide country streets should not be missed and Wingham Brush Nature Reserve, on the banks of the Manning River, is definitely worth a visit whilst in town.
From Wingham follow the signs to Ellenborough Falls, turning left across the railway bridge. Bulga Road will take you all the way through the villages of Marlee and Bobin. Visit Red Tail Wines in Marlee for a local drop. From Bobin, there is 16kms of gravel road so please drive to the conditions. Please note the road from Bobin to Elands is not recommended for caravans.
The Legendary Ellenborough Falls is located just a few kms from Elands with great picnic facilities and a kiosk open on weekends and during school holidays. There is a local coop shop open 7 days in Elands but no fuel is sold.
After visiting the second longest single drop waterfall in the southern hemisphere, continue on following the signs to the lush fertile plains of the Comboyne plateau and the picturesque village of Comboyne. Through the village the road will take you to Wauchope and onto the Oxley Highway. Make sure you stop at Timbertown to discover the timber industry of days gone by in the region.
From Wauchope, continue heading east along the Oxley Highway which will take you into Port Macquarie.
Please note, the road from Comboyne through to Bobin is not recommended for caravans.
