Lismore, Nimbin and Villages …. More than you ever imagined
Lismore is a relaxed and vibrant city, where you'll discover an abundance of arts and crafts, vibrant theatre, interesting events, live music, world heritage listed national parks, historic attractions, lush rainforests and plenty of unique places to stay.
Lismore’s colourful and lively events take centre stage, including the annual Lantern Parade, Tropical Fruits New Years Eve Party and the biennial Masters Games. NORPA, internationally renowned performing arts group, offers a full program of exciting theatre and dance productions. Entertainment happens year round with pubs and clubs supporting a thriving live music circuit and Lismore has a reputation as a nursery for some of Australia’s most exciting and innovative musicians.
You’ll find organic produce at the weekend markets and at Lismore’s fully-certified organic market every Tuesday morning. The historic villages of the Rainbow Region blend traditional rural living with an eclectic, cosmopolitan culture. Lismore and the surrounding hills are alive with creativity, and there are, quite possibly, more actors, artisans, buskers, dancers, divas, filmmakers, musicians, painters, potters and performers, per capita, than anywhere else in the country.
Many of the region’s World Heritage listed rainforests and National Parks are within easy reach of Lismore. Lush rainforests shroud the hills of the Border Ranges and Nightcap National Park, while spectacular waterfalls cascade into clear mountain pools and streams. There is even a rainforest in the city centre. Pick up a touring map from the Visitor Centre before you head out on your scenic drive of the villages and national parks surrounding Lismore. The most famous of these villages is of course Nimbin, the alternative lifestyle capital providing a unique experience for visitors.
Lismore’s diversity extends to its accommodation options, with everything from B&Bs, hinterland retreats and chic, city-style motels to caravan and camping facilities. In the heart of the Northern Rivers, just 30 minutes’ drive from the stunning beaches of Byron Bay and Ballina, Lismore has so much more than you ever imagined.
